A woman identified as Ammaye, known locally as a food business, has been killed by group of mobs in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State following unascertained accusations of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
The incident reportedly occurred in Kasuwan Garba, a community within the council area. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the confrontation began in the nearby village of Igwama, where Ammaye, herself a Muslim, allegedly had a verbal exchange with a young man described as her nephew.
During the conversation, the young man is said to have jokingly proposed marriage to her, citing the intention to “fulfil the Sunnah.” In response, Ammaye reportedly made remarks that were perceived by some locals as blasphemous, sparking outrage.
The matter was subsequently brought before the District Head of Kasuwan Garba. During questioning at the palace, she allegedly repeated the comments, prompting the District Head to transfer her to security personnel for further investigation.
